Wildlife sites are recognised as important places for wildlife outside legally protected areas like Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) and they are non-statutory. They are important in a more localised context rather than internationally or nationally.
The recognition of a wildlife site is vital to protect or enhance areas of substantive nature conservation value outside the statutorily protected SSSIs as well as to help maintain and sustain biodiversity at a local and regional level.
There are currently no wildlife sites in Pembrokeshire or Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire has semi-natural habitats that are protected by policies.
