WWBIC holds over 650,000 species records in our main reporting database comprising 8,539 different species from 9 major taxonomic groups.

In addition we hold more than 200,000 electronic records awaiting verification, and a similar number of paper records which are being gradually put in to an electronic format.

Species datasets

Species information is shared voluntarily with WWBIC. We are very grateful to everyone that shares data with us.

Each dataset we receive goes through a procedure of verification and validation before it is imported into the main WWBIC species database. This is necessary to try and maintain the quality of information we hold and use in our reporting process.

The time it takes for a dataset to be verified and validated varies considerably and depends on whether it is paper or electronic, how big it is and who’s data it is.

Not all of the datasets listed here will have reached the final database yet.
