Grassholm Island
Grassholm island is a National Nature Reserve, a Special Protection Area, a Special Area of Conservation and a Special Site of Scientific Interest. It lies 10 miles west of the Pembrokeshire coast is approximately 22 acres in size and is managed by the Royal Society for the Protection to Birds (RSPB).
Grassholm sustains the only gannet colony in Wales, over 32,000 pairs breed on the island and this number is increasing every year. Gannets can be seen on the island from February to October and such a large colony is extremely noisey and smelly! Various gulls can be found on the island and at least one peregrine.
Cetaceans and seals can be seen in the waters around the island.
