Besides national and local organisations most biodiversity information is held by enthusiastic amateurs who are known as recorders. Anyone can become an observer or a recorder of biodiversity information.
In each county there is usually an expert known as a County recorder. County recorders dedicate a lot of their free time to building and maintaining a database of records on their particular group of expertise for their county. County Recorders verifiy records sent to them by recorders.
