Amphibians (class: Amphibia)
Amphibians are vertebrates which as adults can live in water and on land, but must return to water in order to breed.
Frogs & Toads - tail-less amphibians (order: Anura)
The common frog (Rana temporaria) and the common toad (Bufo bufo) are widespread throughout Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion.
Newts - tailed amphibians (order: Caudata)
Common newt (Triturus vulgaris), crested newt (Triturus cristatus) and palmate newt (Triturus helveticus) are all species found in the UK. However only the palmate newt has been recorded in Pembrokeshire.
County recorders
Annie Haycock is county recorder for Pembrokeshire and any amphibian records for Pembrokeshire should be sent to her.
Tom McOwat is county recorder for Ceredigion and amphibian records for this county should be sent to him.
Carmarthenshire currently doesn't have a county recorder for amphibians, any sightings should be sent to the wwbic office using the contact form.
