Species information is shared voluntarily with WWBIC. We are very grateful to everyone who shares data with us.
Each dataset we receive goes through a procedure of validation and verification.
It is imported into the main WWBIC species database as unassessed and distributed to the relevant Vice County Recorder for verification. This is necessary to maintain the quality of information we hold and use in our reporting process.
The data we hold has grown steadily from the 43,000 records we began with in our operation as a Local Record Centre in 2007. WWBIC currently holds a growing database of more than 4 million species records (as of February 2024) from our region in our main reporting database comprising species from 9 major taxonomic groups.
You can access wildlife sightings and species records collated by the four LERCs, covering the whole of Wales on our online database Aderyn (the Biodiversity Information and Reporting Database of Local Environmental Records Centres Wales).
