Newport for Nature BioBlitz!

You are invited to the Newport for Nature BioBlitz on Saturday 9th of July!

We will be walking around Newport Town trying to record as many species as possible! A  moth trap will be unveiled in the morning with help from expert moth-er Tony Lewis, then a guided Bird walk with Paddy Jenks and an afternoon Pollinator and Plant walk guided by Dr. Abbie Lowe.

We would appreciate your company and any help you can offer with identifying species!

8.00am Meet at The Newport and Nevern Garden for Moth Trap unveiling with Tony Lewis (Local Moth enthusiast)

Meet at The Newport and Nevern Community Garden, where Market St meets Castle Lane, Newport, SA42 0PJ. Depart 8.05am for moth trap location, 3 min walk from the meeting place. If you are late, phone/whatsapp Richard on 07825 170 228. The trap will be set on Friday night – come and see what we have caught, before the moths are safely released.

10.00am – 12.30pm Morning bird walk with Paddy Jenks (Aderyn Ecology)

Start at Memorial Hall for a walk from the Parrog along the estuary walk to the ‘Iron Bridge’.

12.30pm – 2.00pm Lunch Break

A chance to ask the walk leaders any questions and help with identification of species.

2.00pm – 4.30pm Afternoon Plants and Pollinator walk with Dr Abi Lowe and Dr Laura Jones (The National Botanic Gardens of Wales)

Meet at the Memorial Hall for a walk along the back lanes and paths up by the Church and Castle.

20:45 – 22:00 Bat Walk with Den Vaughn around Castle grounds

Meet at the town car park on Long St.  We have been invited to the Castle grounds for a chance to record the bats as they come out to hunt as night falls. Please bring a torch and ear phones if you have them.
